Research on the Molecular Mechanisms Involved in Ageing and Neurodegenerative Diseases

The first subproject has to do with the molecular mechanisms at the base of the ageing process, especially in the nervous system. Issues to take on deal with: the mechanisms of neurodegeneration, with the signaling that underlies it, the genetic basis of neurodegenerative diseases, with gene sequencing studies and the analysis of gene expression in different pathophysiological states through the use of high throughput sequencing of nucleic acids, the mechanisms of REDOX cellular damage, the mechanisms of damage from lysosomal storage, the generation of animal models that summarize the principal neurodegenerative disease in humans, and the imaging of subcellular processes of neuronal degeneration.

This type of preclinical research can provide insights and technologies that can be translated to human cases.
